What is a SEPA Payment?

A SEPA payment is a transfer: 

  • in EUR; 
  • in which both the accounts held by the originator and the beneficiary are opened in one of the 28 EU Member States (Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom) or in Iceland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Vatican City State, Monaco, Norway or Switzerland. 
  • giving IBAN (International Bank Account Number); 
  • with shared costs (also referred to as SHA, standing for ‘shared’).
